Single Ventricle with Mitral and Aortic Atresia

چکیده
Congenital cardiovascular malformations occur in about 5 to 8 of every 1,000 live births, and the percentage in stillborn infants is probably even higher. Between the 5 and 8 weeks of embryonic life, the primitive heart tube undergoes a process of folding, remodeling with the formation of valves, and septation that transforms its single lumen into the four chambers of the definitive heart. Although the cause and pathogenesis of most cardiovascular defects is not well understood, genetic errors, environmental teratogens or altered haemodynamic forces may be responsible in most cases.

Absence of the aortic valve cusps with mitral atresia, normal left ventricle, and intact ventricular septum.
A case of a previously unreported anomaly is presented in which absence of the aortic valve cusps, mitral atresia, a normal left ventricle, and an intact ventricular septum were diagnosed by cross sectional echocardiography. The development of a normal left ventricle, rather than the hypoplastic ventricle usually associated with mitral atresia, is explained by filling of the ventricular cavity ...
متن کاملAortic valve atresia with a normally developed left ventricle.
Aortic valve atresia is usually associated with hypoplasia of the left ventricle and mitral valve. We report a patient presenting aortic atresia with ventricular septal defect and a normally sized left ventricle. The electrocardiogram showed left axis deviation and left ventricular hypertrophy. The ventricular septal defect probably favored a normal growth of the left ventricle, allowing it to ...
متن کاملAortic atresia with normally developed left ventricle in a young adult.
Congenital aortic valve atresia is usually part of a developmental anomaly usually called 'hypoplastic left-heart syndrome'. To the best of our knowledge, most reported cases of aortic atresia have been associated with hypoplasia of the ascending aorta, of the left ventricle, and of the mitral valve. We report a patient presenting with aortic atresia with a ventricular septal defect and a norma...
متن کاملMitral Atresia with Normal Aortic Valve
Eighteen cases of mitral atresia with normal aortic valve plus 68 cases from the literature are analyzed. A new classification based on anatomical findings is proposed. Pulmonary stenosis or atresia is frequent in the type with transposition of the great arteries. The rare instances of normal or large left ventricle are due to a large ventricular septal defect, or to straddling or displaced tri...

متن کاملThe impact of anatomical subgroups for regional and global function of the right ventricle in hypoplastic left heart syndrome
Methods 36 children (5.8 ± 2.4 yrs) with HLHS after completion of Fontan-circulation were investigated. 17 patients (pts) had mitral and aortic atresia (MA/AA) without a visible left ventricular cavity. In 19 pts representing the anatomical subgroups mitral stenosis/aortic atresia (MS/AA) and mitral stenosis/aortic stenosis (MS/AS) a left ventricular cavity was present. We used CMR cine-imaging...
